Port Of Bridgetown Cops Major Award At Seatrade Cruise Awards

The Port of Bridgetown has received the runner-up title in the Port of the Year category at yesterday’s Seatrade Cruise Awards held in Hamburg, Germany.

The award was accepted by Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Ian Gooding-Edghill and Chairman of the Barbados Port Inc. (BPI), the Honourable Peter Odle.

The Port of Bridgetown was one of three finalists out of 160 ports that contested the awards. It was selected by an independent panel of judges and heralded for its recent investments in port infrastructure and service improvements.

Speaking on the Port making the finals, Minister Gooding-Edghill said the Port’s ascension to the top of the entrants reinforces the destination’s “marquee” status and commitment to service excellence through continuous improvement.

Chairman Odle said the Port has committed more than $200 million to the development of the new Berth 6 to achieve some separation in cruise and cargo operations, the construction of a new luxury lounge to elevate the cruise passenger experience, and the acquisition of new cargo handling equipment to support homeporting operations and the resurfacing of quays.
