Tourism Minister Engages With German Travel Trade Partners

Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Ian Gooding-Edghill, has visited Frankfurt, Germany, and engaged with travel trade partners as part of his official visit to European countries to build new partnerships and increase visitor arrivals to Barbados.

Speaking at a reception at the JW Marriott on Wednesday, Mr. Gooding-Edghill noted that the German travel trade professionals and media had contributed to making that country a number one source market for Barbados.

“I wish to extend our sincere appreciation to all of you who continue to work with us and to partner with us. I must tell you that we are committed to building a longer-term relationship with all of our travel trade partners in Germany, and we intend to pursue that strategy even across Europe.

“In a broader sense, Germany continues to be our largest source market within continental Europe, and the City of Frankfurt, with its exceptional connectivity and economic influence, stands at the forefront of that opportunity,” the Tourism Minister said.

He shared that for the upcoming winter season, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will return to Barbados with the launch of a scheduled three-times-weekly service from Amsterdam, beginning on October 26.

“This development marks a significant expansion in seat capacity from continental Europe and aligns seamlessly with our broader strategy to increase direct access and airlift to Barbados, making Barbados the ideal choice for European travellers,” Mr. Gooding-Edghill said.

In addition, he mentioned that the codeshare agreement between Virgin Atlantic and other airlines would offer additional connectivity to Bridgetown.

“These airlift strategies are more than just logistical considerations. They’re integral to our vision for the future of tourism in Barbados. They reflect our understanding that for the modern European traveller, convenience, effort, and connectivity are important as the destination itself.”

Director for Europe at the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), Tracy Jones, told those in attendance that Frankfurt was an important place to visit, as the BTMI had noted that the country had seen year-on-year growth in 2024 and it continues to grow.

“As we traversed across Europe, a stop in Frankfurt was integral to our tour, as it provided us with the opportunity to engage and interact with you and to provide you with updates on developments in Barbados. So, this evening is not just about showcasing the destination, it’s about strengthening our relationships, exchanging ideas, and looking ahead to even greater possibilities,” Director Jones emphasised.

The other countries visited were the United Kingdom, Sweden, Finland, and Switzerland.
