Product Quality

The Product Quality Unit (PQ Unit) functions under the aegis of the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport (MTI), and it is responsible for the regulation of all tourist accommodation, according to strategic national standards. The PQ Unit also facilitates industry-related training and conducts pre-established product assessment audits across the island, to ensure Barbados' standing as a competitive world-class destination.

Objectives:

• To promote and facilitate the efficient development of the tourism product;
• To encourage the establishment of amenities and facilities necessary for the proper enjoyment of Barbados as a tourist destination;
• To register, license and classify tourist accommodation according to the standard amenities provided;
• To license register and regulate such forms of service for tourists as the Minister determines;
• To do such other things that in the opinion of the Authority would facilitate the proper discharge of its functions or would be incidental or conducive thereto, and
• To register and classify tourist accommodation establishments, for the remittance of the tourism levies to the Barbados Revenue Authority.
